Transportation
The best and economical option for transportation from Tucson to Hermosillo would be by car.
Hermosillo is about a 4 hr drive from Tucson, AZ. The drive will require about 3 hrs. of driving in Mexico on the international highway 15D. You will encounter a total of 3 toll booths each way.They will require payment in Mexican currency. The fares at each booth will be $56 pesos (about 3 dollars USD), $30 pesos (about 2 dollars USD), and $93 pesos (about 5 dollars USD). It’s advised to exchange currency through your local bank or at a Casa De Cambio in Nogales, AZ prior to crossing into Mexico.
There are a few flights available, they tend to be a little costly, but it is an option.
Shuttle & Bus Services
Hermosillo Shuttles LLC USA
The shuttle service has a maximum of ten passengers per shuttle. The duration of the shuttle ride from Tucson to Hermosillo is approximately 5hrs. There’s are approximately three stops:
1. Nogales,Mexico: Inspection upon entering
2. Kilometro 21: Shuttle Swap
3. Santa Ana: Bathroom Break/and or snack.
The cost is $48.00 one way
Tufesa
The bus ride from to Tucson to Hermosillo is approximately 6hrs. Depending on the departure time and ticket you purchase, you may have stops in the little towns/cities along the way where passengers may join or exit the bus as they may have reached their destination.
The cost is between $50.00-$60.00 one way.
Important Information
Per Travel.State.Gov
U.S. citizens must present a valid U.S. passport book or card, and an entry permit issued by Instituto Nacional de Migración. Many US travelers also use birth certificates along with a valid government ID.
Enter Mexico with valid proof of automobile registration, even if remaining in the border zone. Entering Mexico with an expired U.S. vehicle registration may lead to the confiscation of the auto by Mexican authorities.
Most business if not all accept debit and or credit card. Be sure to notify your banks and card providers of your travel plans to avoid any blocks on your cards. Prior to crossing the border in Nogales, Az you can find Casas De Cambios ( Exchange Houses) these are business that are authorized to exchange your currency. As mentioned before, you will need approximately 400 pesos (a little under $20.00 US dollars) for round trip toll expense.
